Energy Efficiency Grant Funding

Driving Efficiency and Sustainability with Made Smarter Support

We are delighted to announce that we’ve secured grant funding support from Made Smarter East Midlands to accelerate a major investment in energy-efficient infrastructure and modernised operations.

Supporting smarter, more efficient manufacturing

The energy efficiency grant programme is designed to help manufacturers reduce operating costs, improve productivity, and transition towards lower-carbon operations.

It supports investments in technologies such as energy-efficient equipment, smart energy management systems, and on-site renewable generation – enabling businesses to modernise infrastructure and become more resilient in the face of rising energy costs.

A smarter approach to energy and operations

Our project focuses on two key areas: on-site renewable energy generation and the transition to electric materials handling equipment.

The installation of an additional solar PV system will enable us to generate a significant proportion of our own electricity on-site, reducing reliance on the grid and protecting the business from energy price volatility. Over time, this creates a more stable and predictable operating environment.

Alongside this, we are replacing diesel and LPG forklifts with modern electric alternatives. These assets help to reduce our carbon footprint, offer improved reliability, lower maintenance requirements, and more efficient day-to-day performance across warehouse and yard operations.

Driving measurable impact

This investment is expected to deliver:

  • Reduced energy and fuel costs across operations
  • Reduce our carbon footprint
  • Improved equipment reliability and reduced downtime
  • Lower maintenance requirements
  • Increased efficiency in handling and logistics

Combined, these improvements will deliver an estimated annual operating cost reduction of over £17,000, while strengthening overall productivity.

Supporting lower-carbon production
The environmental impact is equally significant. By combining on-site renewable energy with electrified equipment, the project will reduce both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

  • Approx. 20 tonnes of CO₂e reduction per year
  • Over 300 tonnes of CO₂e reduced across the system lifetime
  • Elimination of on-site exhaust emissions from materials handling

These changes also contribute directly to wider Net Zero ambitions and support the increasing sustainability requirements of clients and supply chains.

Investing in how we deliver

Beyond cost and carbon savings, this investment strengthens how we operate day-to-day. Improved reliability, quieter equipment, and better working conditions all contribute to a safer, more efficient environment for our team.

The project also supports workforce development, with ongoing training in digital systems, energy management, and modern equipment operation.

Accelerating progress through partnership

Grant support has enabled us to move faster and at a greater scale than would otherwise be possible. Without it, the pace of change – and the benefits it delivers – would be significantly reduced.

This investment is a clear step forward in our ongoing focus on efficiency, sustainability, and delivering high-quality, reliable infrastructure for our clients.
